L’Anse Health Department office suspending services temporarily

Baraga County commissioners are concerned about what they hope is a temporary reduction in direct services from the Western Upper Peninsula Health Department. At last night’s meeting, board members noted that staffing shortages have forced the health department to suspend services at its L’Anse office at least through the end of November. New Baraga County Memorial Hospital CEO Rob Stowe suggested that his organization might be able to help.

Places I have come from in the past, the hospital has supported that work. So, whether it be through a collaborative staffing agreement or understanding what the core deliverable is for that service, and trying to get the hospital involved in that activity.

Stowe will contact the Health Department to see if something can be worked out.

Commissioners also noted that a recent plea for new members of the new Parks and Recreation Committee has produced no applicants. The new body will replace the old Recreation Committee, and will help guide the use of some new parks being planned. Anyone interested in serving should contact county clerk Wendy Goodreau.
