Houghton High seniors give themselves a graduation gift

Seniors at Houghton High School will walk across the stage in May 2022, receive their diploma, switch their tassel from one side of their cap’s mortarboard to the other, and then they can enjoy a gift to themselves.

The class was busy last week planting 1,300 bulbs near the waterfront between the pier and Kestner Park. The tulips should be reaching full bloom just as Pomp and Circumstance is struck up by the band.

The City of Houghton Beautification Committee maintains arrangements throughout downtown and along the water. Marigolds, sunflowers, tulips, and more help to brighten up the spring and summer. City staff say that floral displays are particularly appreciated in the Keweenaw thanks to the long winter period. It keeps residents from taking for granted the pleasures that come with the warm weather.
