Hancock Schools Approves New Contracts, will have Driver’s Education Courses

Hancock school board was joined last night by one of the government classes in the school. Students were assigned to attend a school board meeting in order to gain a understanding into local government functions. And last night was definitely an informative one for those students. Hancock’s school board agreed last to approve the Drive America driver’s education contract. The advantage of going this route in driver’s ed, the school will have a say in who will take the class. Driver’s ed instructors are in high demand in the area, and confirming the contract with Drive America will allow 36 students from Hancock schools to sign up. If there are spots left open the school can decide whether or not if they will allow students from other districts who missed out on driving courses to join Hancock.

The school district also approved two bids; one contract will replace the roof, the other for snow removal. Snow removal will cost the district 27,500 dollars. The roof replacement costs 349,000 dollars. Those funds for that project come from the schools sinking fund. Currently there is 270,000 dollars in the sinking fund, and another 280,000 is expected to be added. The roof replacement will be covered by the additional money coming in.

Hancock schools also plans to run another paver fundraiser around Christmas. The previous fundraiser encouraged alumni of the school to make a donation and have a paver with their name placed on the building new entrance. The money raised during the first fundraiser helped to purchase new furniture in the high school and middle school’s common area.
