Baraga County Chamber completes rebrand, plans hockey tournament

You may notice a sticker with a different kind of look in the windows of Baraga County businesses. The chamber of commerce has finished its rebranding efforts, highlighting Keweenaw Bay. President Debbie Stouffer says the choice to elevate one of the area’s premier natural attractions was a deliberate one.

If you look at a map of Michigan, Keweenaw Bay is visibly on that map. Keweenaw Bay is a much more easily located place, it means more to more people than Baraga County does. If you’re looking for Keweenaw, it’s going to allow us to find them as well.

The chamber held its annual Membership Mixer on Friday, October 1st, and a career application drive in conjunction with Michigan Works! in late September. Stouffer says most of the planning being done now is for 2022, with a couple of noticeable exceptions.

We are bringing a youth hockey tournament to Baraga County in December. This will be a first for the Chamber, and the first youth hockey tournament in Baraga County in quite a number of years.

Meadowbrook Arena was one of the first facilities to reopen after the COVID-19 shutdowns, and it enjoyed interest from teams as far away as Iron River and Marquette about ice time for practice.
