Representative Bergman Says He May Not Support the NDAA for 2022

In a statement last week 1st District of Michigan Congressman,  Representative Jack Bergman, says that the current language of the National Defense Authorization Act for the Fiscal Year of 2022 contains red flag law-like language. Red flag laws are those that allow police or family to petition state courts to remove firearms from an individual who may present a danger to themselves or others.  Representative Bergman says that Republicans in Washington will not stand to see American’s 2nd amendment rights trampled upon and vows to remove this type of language from the FY22 NDAA. If this language is not removed Representative Bergman does not plan to support such a bill.  You can read his full statement below.

As your Congressman, I have always and will always oppose federal red flag laws. They set a dangerous precedent and infringe on our 2nd Amendment rights. As many have noted, the FY22 NDAA contains red flag-like language, that Republicans will be sure to strip during negotiations in conference with the Senate.
Most importantly, I have made it abundantly clear to all involved that when this legislation comes up for a final vote – if red flag language has not been stripped from the bill – it’s a non-starter and I will not support the National Defense Authorization Act.
