Finlandia University Celebrates 125 Years in the Copper Country

Finlandia University’s President Dr. Philip Johnson and Interum Director for the Finnish-American Heritage Center David Maki present 125 years of Finilandia history.

125 years ago Soumi College was founded. This year the college, now known as Finlandia University, will celebrate this achievement in December. But today, Dr. Philip Johnson, President of the University, wanted to recognize the sisu it took those immigrants all those years ago.

The school has placed various sidewalk decals around campus said Interim Director of the Finnish-American Heritage Center, David Maki.

Finlandia students, faculty, and alum will celebrate from December 3rd to the 5th, ending festivities on Independence Day for Finland, December 6th. During those days the school will have various folk art displays, speakers and activities for the community to celebrate the anniversary with the school.
