Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College Calls for Masks on Campus

The Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College will require individuals to wear mask while on campus. The mask mandate encompasses everyone, regardless of vaccination status. And will be applied in the campus’ main buildings, Little Eagles and in OCC’s child care. Masks are available at all entry ways to buildings.

Due to a rise in cases of COVID-19 in the area the school has chosen make masks mandatory, now that the college sits at a level 2 in their Health and Safety protocols. Unvaccinated individuals who have tested positive will need to isolate until cleared by a medical provider. And inform supervisors with a written statement from a health professional. If you come into close contact with someone that has tested positive, get tested and let supervisors know of the situation with note from a doctor. If you have gone to get tested, and the result come back negative you may return to work after informing supervisors of your status. If you fall into the category of third-party exposure you are not required to self-isolate, but OCC does say it is still a good idea.

For individuals who are vaccinated, the risk may be lower, but the school hopes to protect everyone with these changes. If you are fully vaccinated and show symptoms of COVID-19, get tested about 3-5 days following possible exposure. Wear a mask indoors for 14 days or until you receive a negative test. And continue to monitor your symptoms over the next couple of weeks. Seek medical attention if symptoms progress or get worse.
