UPDATE: Hancock finished in sixth place, one spot away from the cash prize.
There is plenty to be excited about for Hancock’s new dog park, but the milk bone on top of the frosty paw sundae remains just out of reach. Petsafe announced its Bark For Your Park contest winners Thursday. Five of the prizes were for new construction, while five will help out existing infrastructure at sites across the country. Hancock was a finalist, but not selected for a prize.
The City Council approved a contract with JCS Incorporated to enfence the roughly one-acre parcel where the new park is set to be installed. The fences are eight feet high which will ensure that the barriers keep dogs in the enclosure, even during winter time as the snow piles up. The total cost is $32,340.
The Patronicity and MEDC grant effort means that is already covered. If donations continue to pour in through September 17th, Manager Mary Babcock says the space could still wind up with a full complement of bells and whistles.
The city will be sending out thank you packages to the park’s biggest backers, including one family that gave a whopping $5,000. The fence goes up this fall.
