Last night the Planning Commission approved to refer a special use permit to the City Council. The special land use permit would allow for an adult use cannabis store to open on Ridge Street, previously the site for the Bamboo Restaurant. The Planning Commission would also hear a report from the Subcommittee on the City Master Plan. The subcommittee met on Monday to discuss parking in the city as it relates to the relationship between Houghton and the university. The commission had a last minute agenda item added to the meeting. The item would approve a special land use permit for Superior Mycology Co. to combine their residence with their business. City manager Eric Waara said that he does not believe that the permit is necessary as the company does not fill orders from the address. Rather Superior Mycology sells gourmet mushroom direct to customers or to restaurants. Waara will follow up with Superior Mycology to inform them of the commission’s decision.
