No Appeal Against Same-Sex Couples

Governor Rick Snyder says he will not appeal U.S. District Court Judge Mark Goldsmith’s ruling recognizing the validity of the approximately 300 same-sex couples married in four counties in Michigan on March 22, 2014. The Governor says his administration will follow the law and extend state marriage benefits to those couples. Snyder says he appreciates that the larger question will be addressed by the U.S. Supreme Court this year. The High Court has agreed to hear challenges to same-sex marriage bans in Michigan and three other states in late April. A final decision is expected by late June.
