Rita Hutchinson, 81, died on August 3rd at her home in Hancock, MI surrounded by her family after her second courageous battle with cancer.
Rita was born to the late Ralph and Clara (Monkoski) Butkovich on February 2, 1940. She was raised in Hurontown, MI and attended Houghton schools.
She worked at Houghton County Medical Care Facility (Canal View) as a CNA for close to 30 years and retired in 2002.
Rita lived life with great enthusiasm; she walked daily, read voraciously, shopped tirelessly and never turned down a dessert.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Todd Alatalo, her brothers Fred, Robert and John Butkovich and her sister, Dorothy Yoohs.
She is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Jay Hutchinson; her daughters Tammy (Howard) Parmentier of Manistique, MI, Terry (Danette Bull) Alatalo of Niagara, WI; her sisters Delores (Harold) Krueger of Troy, MI, Elizabeth Reed of Lapeer, MI; several nieces and nephews and her faithful Shih Tzu companion, Roscoe.
Her family wishes to thank the staff at UP Health System – Portage Hospital and Hospice for their care and compassionate support.
