Move over Tonka toys, the real heavy machinery will be on display Saturday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM in Laurium at the Gipp Recreation Area. The Touch-A-Truck event is designed to help children become more comfortable with vehicles used by public safety and public works departments to help put out fires, handle garbage pickup, or remove the feet of snow that pile high in winter.
Councilor Jenn Jenich-Laplander says there will be demonstrations, but not all kids want to see the lights flashing and sirens blaring. That has been taken into consideration.
On the other end of the spectrum, some of the demonstrations will be highly interactive.
There is a millage renewal to help fund public works equipment. For adults, Touch-A-Truck gives them a chance to better understand what their tax dollars go towards, and why the proposal is a responsible use of village funds.
