McLean’s longtime colleague pays tribute

Houghton County Commissioner and Michigan Tech Campus Police Deputy Chief Roy Britz knows Brian McLean better than anyone from a professional sense. The two worked together in the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department for years. Britz served as Undersheriff, which he describes as being the “office manager.”

The time we spent together administering the sheriff’s department, he as a politician and department head. We spent many hours talking about budgets, about personnel, and he had a vision. His goal and his utmost wanting for the department was to be the people’s department.

When asked what made “Slim” unique, Britz says McLean was always the center of attention in a room, a quality that came natural to him.

Just his, big Santa Claus personality. You could go to him for anything. He was always available, always offering, always willing to do whatever he could do to help as a friend.

McLean will be remembered Saturday at the Rozsa Center. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM. The ceremonies will have an outdoor and indoor component and are being planned by the Michigan Sheriff’s and Municipal Memorial and Response Team. Delegates from across the state are expected to be in attendance.
