Construction finishes just in time for Canal Run

An MDOT project is wrapping up just in time to avoid causing a snarl with the 2021 Canal Run set for this Saturday. Crews have been repairing sidewalks and replacing the top two inches of asphalt on state highways in Hubbell and Hancock in recent weeks. That includes M-203, or Quincy Street, just west of US-41 to Lakeview Manor.

The 46th Annual Canal Run will start at various locations, as far back as High Point Road. Traffic is not halted during the race and vehicles have the right of way, so it is important to have the course free of other obstructions, including orange barrels.

The half marathon begins at 7:00 AM, with the five-mile walk at 8:00 and the five-mile run at 9:00 AM. Bibs have been packed and are ready to be handed out thanks to volunteers. Headphones, a staple for many distance runners, are discouraged for safety reasons due to the expected presence of cars.
