CLK Schools will not mandate masks, vaccines

In a follow up to a story from earlier this month, Calumet-Laurium-Keweenaw Schools is joining Hancock in not mandating mask usage or vaccines for students this fall. They addressed a letter to district parents dated July 1st that was posted on their Facebook page earlier this week. You can find that link here.

Keweenaw Report reached out to other school districts in the area, but has been unable to connect with their respective superintendents at this time. James Rautiola from the Copper Country Intermediate School District says that there is no coordinated message on the issue, and each jurisdiction will be making its own decision.

The CCISD is still exploring the issue.

We haven’t made any final decisions yet as a district. We are waiting to see what the recommendations are going forward.

Rautiola says he is settling in nicely into his new position. His tenure started on July 1st.
