MLB

The American League defeated the National League 5-2 in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game last evening. It was the eighth straight win for the Junior Circuit. Vladimir Guerrero, Jr., hit a mammoth home run, and was named the game’s Most Valuable Player. Gregory Soto of the Tigers pitched the sixth inning, and gave up a solo home run to J.T. Realmuto. Corbin Burnes of the Brewers pitched the second and third innings for the National League. He gave up four runs, and took the loss. Milwaukee’s Freddy Peralta struck out the side in the sixth.

The Tigers wrapped up the Major League Baseball draft yesterday by selecting two catchers, two infielders, two outfielders and four pitchers. The Brewers used the final 10 rounds to take two infielders, an outfielder, a catcher, and six pitchers.

Detroit and Milwaukee return to action Friday. The Tigers will resume their season with a home day-night doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins. Pregame shows will begin at 1:50 and 6:50 on 99.3 The Lift. The Brewers will host the Cincinnati Reds.

Two concessions that Major League Baseball made to the COVID-19 pandemic may disappear at the end of this season. Yesterday, commissioner Rob Manfred said the league is considering dropping the practice of placing a runner at second base at the start of each team’s at-bat in extra innings, and could restore doubleheader games from seven innings to nine innings.
