Obituary: James Frank Burcar

As received from the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home:

James Frank Burcar, 73, passed on July 8th, 2021 in Houghton Michigan.

Jim was born on May 14th, 1948 in Winona Michigan.

Jim Burcar founded Burcar Logging and Burcar Construction in the early 1980s which employed more than 90 U.P. workers during their busiest times in the later 80s and 90s. Jim was known for his strong work ethic, and many enjoyed working both with, and for Jim, as part of the Burcar ‘Family’. He had a passion for the natural beauty of the region and spent long hours out in the woods with his beloved canine companions. Jim was a lifelong devotee to the Upper Peninsula and was an active member of the Timberman’s Association and Operators Union #324.

He is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Clara Burcar of Hancock and his Brother Gary Burcar of Dollar Bay. Jim is survived by his four siblings and three sons Joe, Jeff, and Jim, as well as stepdaughters, stepson, nieces, nephews, and many grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton Michigan on Thursday July 15th at 11:00 a.m.

The Burcar family would like to thank the Omega House of Houghton Michigan for their wonderfully compassionate care in Jim’s final days, and recognize the Copper Country Humane Society for their loving mission which provided Jim his faithful companions for many years in the woods of Upper Michigan. Please consider any gifts of sympathy to be directed to these organizations.
