Portage Lake Advances to LL Finals – Friday Sports Wrap

The annual Leo Durocher Memorial Tournament opened last evening…
• Garnet Garage defeated Northern Driveline 14-7.
• REL-Mohawk Technology got past Craig Heinonen Coldwell Banker 9-8.

Action continues at the Stanton Field tonight, as Northern Driveline faces Houghton Building Supply-Stanton at 6:30.

Tomorrow…
• Garnet Garage faces the Channing Railroaders at 11:00.
• Craig Heinonen Coldwell Banker takes on the Tri-City North Stars at 1:30.
• REL-Mohawk Technology plays the Tri-City North Stars at 4:00.
• Houghton Building Supply-Stanton faces the Channing Railroaders at 6:30.

The semifinals and championship game will be played Sunday.

Little League

At the District 11 Little League Majors tournament yesterday, Portage Lake advanced to the championship level with a 13-0 victory over Keweenaw. Negaunee eliminated Ishpeming 10-5.

Keweenaw and Negaunee will play an elimination game in the loser’s bracket this evening at 6:00. The winner of that contest will face Portage Lake tomorrow at 1:00. In the double elimination format, if Portage Lake wins tomorrow’s game, they take the title. If Portage Lake loses tomorrow, a final game will be played Sunday at 1:00.

NBA

Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 42 points, but the Bucks lost to the Suns defeated the Bucks 118-108 in the NBA championship series last night. Phoenix leads the set 2-0, with game three set for Sunday night in Milwaukee.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers lost 5-3 to the Minnesota Twins last night. Tarik Skubal tossed four scoreless innings, gave up single runs in the fifth and sixth, then left the game as the Twins scored three times in the seventh. Eric Haase homered for Detroit.

The Tigers visit the Twins again tonight. Matt Manning will start against Kenta Maeda. Coverage begins at 7:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit has activated outfielder Victor Reyes from the injured list, and assigned him to Toledo.

The Milwaukee Brewers got past the Cincinnati Reds 5-3 last evening. Avisaíl García’s two-run homer in the eighth inning provided the winning margin. Starter Adrian Houser left the game as Cincy scored all three of their runs in the fifth inning. Devin Williams got the win in relief, and Josh Hader earned his 21st save.

The Brewers host the Reds again tonight. Eric Lauer will pitch against Wade Miley.

A week after calling him up from Nashville, the Brewers returned pitcher Hoby Milner to the Sounds yesterday.

Guts Frisbee

The 63rd Coca Cola International Frisbee Tournament will be held tomorrow and Sunday at the Hancock Driving Park. Some of the best Guts Frisbee players in the country will compete for the sport’s most prestigious title, including the local Shottle Bop team, which recently earned co-champion honors at the Wisconsin state championships. The public is invited.
