NBA
The Bucks advanced to the NBA championship series with a 118-107 victory over the Hawks last night. Again playing without star Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is nursing a knee injury, Milwaukee eliminated Atlanta 4-2 to take the Eastern Conference title. They will face the Suns in the opening game of the title series Tuesday in Phoenix.
NHL
In the Stanley Cup championship series, the Lightning could complete a sweep of the Canadiens in Montreal tomorrow night. Tampa Bay leads the series 3-0.
MLB
Eric Haase hit two three-run home runs, as the Detroit Tigers blasted the Chicago White Sox 11-5 yesterday. Haase’s first round-tripper was considerably less than typical. A sharp but short line drive to center field eluded Billy Hamilton as he tried to make a diving catch, and bounced all the way to the outfield wall. Haase rounded the bases as Hamilton chased it down, and scored standing up. Jonathan Schoop also homered. Tarik Skubal wasn’t sharp, giving up five runs on eight hits over five frames, but still earned the win.
That series continues in Detroit this afternoon. Matt Manning will start against Lucas Giolito. Coverage begins at 12:50 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Tigers have sent Niko Goodrum to Toledo for a rehab assignment. He’s recovering from a finger injury.
The Milwaukee Brewers stretched their winning streak to 11 by pounding the Pittsburgh Pirates 11-2 yesterday. The Crew did it without a home run. Omar Narváez had five hits and scored three times. Avisaíl García had four hits, and drove in five runs. Eric Lauer pitched into the seventh inning, gave up a run on four hits, and earned the win.
The Brewers conclude that series at Pittsburgh this afternoon. Freddy Peralta will pitch against Tyler Anderson.
Liberty Run
Youth held sway in yesterday’s Liberty 5k Run in Baraga. Cody Krause of Greenville was the overall winner, competing in the men’s 15-19 division. He finished a full four minutes ahead of the rest of the field. Karli Koskinen of Watton placed third overall, and was the fastest woman, competing in the 14 and under division. Sawyer Hendrickson of Baraga won the one-mile youth run, three seconds ahead of Kayla McAdams of Otsego, Minnesota. See full results here.
