Hancock: Sharon Marie Murphy, 73, a resident of Hancock, MI, passed away peacefully, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Mary’s Campus in Rochester, MN, on June 21, 2021.
Sharon was born January 9, 1948, the eldest daughter of Weldon and Janet (Isola) DuLong. She attended Ahmeek Elementary, until age 9, then Saint Cecilia Catholic School and finally Lake Linden-Hubbell High School.
On February 18, 1966, Sharon was united in marriage to James Edwin Murphy of Lake Linden. They celebrated 54 years of marriage together. Their marriage blessed them with six children, 13 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Sharon loved spending time with her family, she was deeply devoted and highly supportive of them all.
In her early years, she worked at the Dreamland Bar and later, at the Houghton County Airport. Some of her early hobbies included camping, boating, snowmobiling, and ceramics, although most of her years were spent raising and caretaking for her family. Most of their years were spent in the Copper Country except for six years in DePere, WI.
She was preceded in death by: her husband-James, parents-Weldon and Janet, daughter-in-law-Michelle (James) Murphy, 2 sisters-Grace Corrigan and Patricia Mattfolk, and 2 brothers-Brian and Donald DuLong.
She is survived by: her six children-James Murphy, Scott Murphy, Robert Murphy, Kerri (Michael) Luoma, Kelly (Brandon) Schroyer, and Greg (Cora) Murphy; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; her siblings-Robert DuLong, Nancy (Francis) Bessner, Janet Hendrickson, Charlene Klein, Jaqueline Huuki, and James DuLong.
The family would like to extend thanks to the local and St. Mary’s-Mayo’s physicians, nurses, and staff for their excellent care and compassion extended to our mother during her treatment.
A celebration of her life for family and close friends will be held at a later date. The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is in charge of arrangements.
