Senator Looking for Delay on Post Office Closure

Looks like the post office in Kingsford may not be closing after all. Michigan’s senior U.S. Senator has introduced an amendment stopping the U.S. Postal Service from closing facilities for two years. Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow joined with 12 other senators in authoring the measure, which seeks to prevent delays in services that she says will impact Michigan families and small businesses. The amendment would also re-establish overnight delivery standards for first-class mail. The Postal Service announced last July that they would begin consolidating facilities. So far, 82 mail processing facilities are being consolidated, including mail processing centers in Kingsford, Kalamazoo, and Lansing. Last November, Stabenow sent a letter to the Postmaster General asking for the consolidations and closures to be delayed until studies are completed and customers are informed and given an opportunity to share concerns.
