Update: Fire reignites in Calumet Township

UPDATE: At approximately 10:30 Tuesday morning, twelve hours after the initial call, the structure fire from last night reignited in Calumet Township. The insulation on the western wall of Loukus Technologies on Pine Street, just west of US-41, was smoldering for some time before flames appeared on the exterior, where the roof meets the wall. The fire spread quickly to the inside.

Calumet Township Fire and Rescue was called back out. They arrived on scene with two engines and brought the fire back under control. Owner Amy Loukus says she had no remarks for the press at this time. Damage is extensive, but the building is not a total loss.

Late Monday night, around 10:30, Houghton County Sheriff’s Department responded to a fire at a local business on Pine Street in Calumet Township. Keweenaw Report is working to confirm more details. It is not known how long fire personnel were on the scene. A release from law enforcement says Calumet Township Fire and Rescue, as well as Mercy Ambulance and UPPCO were involved.

The fire is extinguished and under investigation, but no foul play is suspected.
