Memorial Day remembrances held across the area

Severe weather held off across most of the Copper Country to allow for Memorial Day observances Monday morning. The Alfred Erickson American Legion Post #186 led the charge locally, beginning at 7:50 AM between Gloria Dei Lutheran and Church of the Resurrection in Hancock. For nearly five hours they made their way to various parks and cemeteries to pay tribute to those who never returned home.

Help us keep alive the memory of the sacrifices, the deeds of yesterday’s veterans, so that our nation’s people may ever be inspired to face up to the challenges, and the threats, that may come tomorrow.

Keweenaw Report attended the 8:30 event at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Houghton, joined by around two dozen others. The ceremony lasted about 10 minutes. Some are more detailed, taking upwards of a half hour.
