UPDATE: Michigan Health and Human Services policy is now in line with that of the CDC. Mask requirements have been dropped for fully vaccinated adults.
The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shifted their guidance on masks dramatically Thursday. The federal agency advised that those who have been fully vaccinated pose little risk to others and can get back to normalcy. The CDC is dropping its mask recommendations for outdoor and indoor settings, no matter the gathering size.
Director Rochelle Walensky said, “Anyone who is fully vaccinated can participate in indoor and outdoor activities large or small without wearing a mask or physical distancing. If you are fully vaccinated, you can start doing the things that you had stopped doing because of the pandemic.”
The move is being celebrated by Senator Gary Peters.
State guidance has not changed yet, so Michiganders need to be aware of the more restrictive rules still in place from Lansing. The New York Times reports that many other states in the same situation; New York, Massachusetts, and Virginia among others, are saying they will take the announcement under advisement, but move more cautiously before adopting the CDC’s stance.
