LL-H Sweeps in Softball, Swept in Baseball – Tuesday Sports Wrap

High School

In high school baseball yesterday…
• Houghton defeated Lake Linden-Hubbell 14-0 and 14-0.

On the baseball schedule this afternoon…
• Houghton plays at Calumet.

In softball yesterday…
• Lake Linden-Hubbell defeated Baraga 25-2 and 18-5. In the opening game, Olivia Shank had three singles and two doubles for the Lakes. Kara Kinnunen was the winning pitcher, and had a double and a triple. Shank was the winning pitcher in the nightcap. Clara Colombe had a single and a double.
• The Hancock-Calumet doubleheader was postponed until Friday.
• The Iron Mountain at Houghton doubleheader was canceled.

In softball today…
• Calumet visits Negaunee.

In golf today, the Houghton, Hancock and Calumet boys and girls compete at the Negaunee Invitational.

In track and field…
• Houghton takes part in the Kingsford Triangular.
• Hancock, Lake Linden-Hubbell, Chassell, Dollar Bay-Tamarack City, and Jeffers compete at the Hancock Invitational.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons host the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers had yesterday off, and host the Kansas City Royals tonight. Matthew Boyd will face Brady Singer. Coverage begins at 6:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers also had yesterday off, and entertain the Saint Louis Cardinals this evening. Freddy Peralta will pitch against Kwang Hyun Kim.

There was good news and bad news for Milwaukee pitcher Zack Godley yesterday. The team activated him off the injured list, where he had been recovering from a finger that was bruised during a bunt attempt nearly two weeks ago. He was then designated for assignment. If he’s not claimed off waivers by another team, Godley could become a free agent, or accept a Minor League assignment.
