MTU Tops Social Mobility Index List

Another list, another high ranking for Michigan Tech. With the latest talks regarding helping members of low-income families get a college education, the websites CollegeNET and PayScale have ranked MTU #1 in the state and 42nd nationwide on their Social Mobility Index, which judges a university’s efforts to increase access to higher education for economically disadvantaged students and families. The index uses fix factors for the rankings: tuition, economic background of students, graduation rate, early career salary and university endowment. MTU President Glen Mroz says this distinction recognizes the overall value of a Michigan Tech education that is critical to the success of both graduates and employers in the post-recession economy.
