College Softball

The Finlandia University softball team’s season ended with a 9-0 loss to the University of Mary Washington yesterday, in the loser’s bracket at the Coast to Coast Athletic Conference tournament. The Lions were held to two hits.

The Finlandia baseball team lost two to Wisconsin-Whitewater yesterday, 19-0 and 14-0. The Lions collected three hits in the opener, and two in the nightcap, as they dropped to 0-29 on the season. Finlandia plays another doubleheader at Whitewater this afternoon.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons visit the Philadelphia 76ers tonight.

NHL

Detroit Red Wings defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2 last evening. Down 2-0 early, Detroit got goals from Joe Veleno, Danny DeKeyser and Jakub Vrana within a three-minute span in the second period to take control. It was Veleno’s first NHL goal. Vladislav Namestnikov added two late empty-netters to seal the win.

The Wings end their season at Columbus tonight. A win or a tie would keep them out of last place in the Central Division. We’ll join the game after Tigers baseball on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers dropped a 7-3 decision to the Minnesota Twins last night, in a game that was twice delayed by rain. Tarik Skubal gave up two solo home runs over five innings, struck out eight, and took the loss. Willi Castro homered.

The Tigers host the Twins again today. José Ureña will face José Berríos. Coverage begins at 3:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

Catcher Wilson Ramos has been placed in the injured list with a back sprain. Jake Rogers has been called up from Toledo to fill in. Detroit has designated struggling reliever Buck Farmer for assignment. If Farmer is not claimed by another team, he can be assigned to Toledo. Erasmo Ramírez has been called up to take that roster spot.

Isan Díaz’ grand slam off Patrick Weigel was the big blow, as the Miami Marlins defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 6-1 last evening.

The Brewers play in Miami again tonight. Adrian Houser will start for the Crew.

Utility player Hernán Pérez is back in the Brewers’ organization on a minor league deal. After getting his start with the Tigers, Pérez played most of five seasons in Milwaukee. He saw little playing time last season with the Cubs, and was recently released by the Nationals. He’ll join the Nashville Sounds.

NFL

Former Detroit running back Kerryon Johnson has been claimed by the Philadelphia Eagles, a day after the Lions placed him on waivers.
