The Detroit Pistons dropped a 100-98 heartbreaker to the Los Angeles Clippers last night. After missing several games with a sore knee, Jerami Grant returned with 28 points for Detroit. Former Piston Reggie Jackson hit the game winner with three seconds remaining, and scored 29 points.

Detroit Lions players will not take part in voluntary team workouts next week. The players cited lack of progress in union negotiations with the league over COVID-19 protocols as one of the reasons they won’t take part. The other is Michigan’s skyrocketing COVID-19 rate, with more than 45,000 new cases and 282 deaths reported in the state in the past week.

The Detroit Tigers completed a sweep of the Houston Astros with a 6-4 victory last night. Jeimer Candelario had three hits, and drove in two runs. Michael Fulmer gave up two runs on three hits over five innings, and earned his first win in nearly three years.

Detroit outfielder Nomar Mazara has been diagnosed with a left abdominal strain. He left last night’s game following a swing in the fourth inning. He’s considered day-to-day.
Before last night’s game, the Astros placed five players on the injured list because of COVID-19 protocol issues. They were replaced with players from the Houston taxi squad. Team officials said all five of the affected players have received one vaccination shot, and that no consideration was given to postponing the game.
Corbin Burnes struck out 10 batters, as the Milwaukee Brewers blanked the Chicago Cubs 7-0 yesterday afternoon. Burnes allowed just two hits over six innings. J.P. Feyereisen and Josh Lindblom completed the shutout. Burnes also drove in two runs with a single. Travis Shaw homered.
The Brewers have today off, and begin a home set against the Pittsburgh Pirates tomorrow night. Adrian Houser will start against J.T. Brubaker.
Christian Yelich missed his third straight game because of back problems. He’s considered day-to-day. Center fielder Lorenzo Cain has been placed on the 10-day injured list, following the left quadriceps strain that forced him out of Tuesday’s contest. Tyrone Taylor has been called up to fill in.
