Florist sales bloom with Easter

The holiday ushered in terrific sales at area shops like Calumet Floral and Gift. Easter 2021 was a tricky proposition for many small businesses in the Copper Country. Calumet Floral Owner Amy Knight says they traditionally use the prior year as a barometer for ordering, regarding holidays and other special events. Since her store was not included in the list of essential businesses, last Easter came and went as Calumet Floral sat shuttered. Knight said it was akin to flying blind, but the results speak for themselves.

Knight says this year’s banner numbers fly in the face of normal patterns.

Typically, Easter is not as big a holiday as say Christmas and Mother’s Day.

She cites weather as a huge factor. When it is nice outside, foot traffic goes up. Knight says that coming off of a tough year, many customers came in looking for ways to brighten others’ spirits, which played to a range of items offered at Calumet Floral and Gift. Knight says she can’t thank the community enough for their support. The village’s downtown area is seeing an influx of investment and development, and Knight is excited to see where that leads in the coming years.
