Nearly one in five Copper Country adults vaccinated

Thursday’s COVID-19 update from the Western Upper Peninsula Health Department shows impressive gains in vaccination rates across the Copper Country. Well over one percent of adults in Houghton, Baraga, and Keweenaw Counties received their final vaccinations in the past three days. Houghton still lags the other two, but its rate is now up to 17.69 percent.

There were 22 positives reported versus 13 recoveries. The numbers are roughly in line with last week’s update and do not show a spike as is being reported in other parts of the state.

TOTAL: 24 more positives, 18 more probable positives, 19 more recoveries and 19.11% fully vaccinated (up from 18.10% — meaning 556 more people)
BARAGA COUNTY: 2 more recoveries and 20.95% fully vaccinated (up from 19.67%)
GOGEBIC COUNTY: 1 more positive, 4 more probable positives, 5 more recoveries and 18.01% fully vaccinated (up from 17.20%)
HOUGHTON COUNTY: 19 more positives, 14 more probable positives, 10 more recoveries and 17.69% fully vaccinated (up from 16.55%)
KEWEENAW COUNTY: 3 more positives, 1 more recovery and 22.60% fully vaccinated (up from 21.05%)
ONTONAGON COUNTY:1 more positive, 1 more recovery and 26.30% fully vaccinated (up from 26.08%)
