The Keweenaw Community Foundation (KCF) Board of Trustees is pleased to announce Jim Vivian as the organization’s new Executive Director. Jim will follow Barb Rose’s eight-year legacy of leadership, growth and compassion.
The Board is collectively elated about Jim’s passion, new ideas and skills he brings to the foundation. His long history of growing organizations will allow KCF to continue and expand philanthropic activities in the community. Jim will complement our “For Good. For Ever.” traditions by leading the board, staff and partner organizations to create a philanthropic vision for those we serve.
“Jim is a fifth-generation resident of the community. His rich family history dates back to the 1840s,” states Board President Brent Peterson. “He comes from a long line of entrepreneurs and community leaders. His background and life experiences align perfectly with what the board sought in a new director.”
Jim has already been working with members of the community to establish a scholarship with Copper Country Oldtimers Hockey, and a fund called “Alive Inside,” using music to improve the quality of life for residents in long term care facilities in the Copper Country. People who suffer from memory loss and/or depression can often be inspired by the recorded music that once touched their hearts, and modern technology makes it possible to create individual playlists of those recordings.
Jim started his new position on December 15, 2014, and is most looking forward to working with the board to develop a growth plan. “KCF has an amazing, diverse, talented and well-connected board of directors. I am beginning my new job by listening and learning from them, the staff, our partners, donors, and the community.”
Join us in welcoming Jim Vivian during the Keweenaw Gold Gala on January 21, 2015, at the Continental Fire Company in Houghton, from 6–9pm. Call the Foundation office at (906) 482-9673 to purchase tickets.
