The Michigan Tech Winter Carnival is still nearly a month away, but the City of Houghton is getting prepared for the popular annual event.
At Wednesday night’s city council meeting, city public works director Mark Zenner said preparations are under way for the carnival.
Zenner said that city crews are in the process of widening streets, and that cold patching will begin soon to fill potholes caused by winter conditions.
City business development director Susie Landers told the council that events related to the carnival are in the plans. One, the Yooper Luge, is scheduled to be held on Feb. 14.
The matter of closures on the Portage Lake Lift Bridge also came up. Police Chief John Donnelly said emergency vehicles during the closure will be provided crossing.
