Hancock looking to redevelop former Neil’s Taxi site

The City of Hancock Friday put out a request for proposals to help rehabilitate a parcel of land at the intersection of Tezcuco and East Franklin Streets. It’s the former site of Neil’s Taxi service. The property was in rough shape when Hancock took it over, says City Manager Mary Babcock.

And there was a dilapidated building and hundreds of tires when the city took it over from the tax sale. So that’s how we came to own it, and we’ve owned it for almost two years now. It’s time to see if we can get somebody in there.

The parcel is zoned B-2, or Community Business, so there are few restrictions as to what could go there. Hancock wants a minimum price of $5,000 for the property, expects that any building erected at the site will be at least 3,200 square feet, and development must occur within a year after taking ownership of the land. Proposals are due by Monday, February 15th at city hall.
