Skating track nearly ready at Kestner Park

A new amenity at Kestner Park in Houghton is set to turn the waterfront into a winter wonderland. City Business Director Susie Negro says the finishing touches on the inaugural skate track are just about complete. It’s a learning process though, so expect a no frills experience this year.

And again, this being our first year, you know it will probably just be pretty bare bones I’m gonna guess. And maybe if this goes really well, we can start thinking, “Next fall, okay, maybe we need to construct a few things that have some lighting. Maybe a spot where you can stop and sit for a second.

That from an interview heard on 97.7 The Wolf January 7th. Last week, the Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce posted a skate track update to its Facebook page which you can see here.

For this year, Negro says that participants may need to put their skates on while still in their vehicles. She also reminds you that the experience is weather dependent. After a week of warm temperatures, that should be fresh in the minds of most.
