Obituary: Kiril Spiroff

As received from the Memorial Chapel & Plowe Funeral Homes:

Kiril “Bud” Spiroff, 90, a resident of Chassell, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020, at Mission Point of Hancock, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on May 20, 1930, in Anaconda, MT, son of the late Kiril and Marguerite (Benson) Spiroff. Kiril was raised in Anaconda, MT, & Superior, WI, before moving with his family to make their home in Houghton. He was a graduate of Houghton High School, with the Class of 1948.

Mr. Spiroff was a veteran, having served with the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He then attended Michigan Technological University, where he received his Bachelor’s in Forestry.

On June 15, 1957, he was united in marriage to the former Claudette Simons, of Ishpeming. The couple resided in Oregon for a short time while they both worked for the US Forest Service, before returning to Michigan to make their home in Ishpeming. Kiril began a career working as a salesman for Armco Steel, before retiring after 25 years with the company. Since 1987 the couple has made their home in Chassell.

Bud was endlessly curious, and continuously sought to learn from the world around him. He was a creator, a fixer, and an educator, happily sharing his wealth of knowledge with those willing to engage. Bud welcomed a conversation with anyone, on any subject, and was selfless in his willingness to help anyone with a problem. He enjoyed tinkering with his cars and trucks, tractors and farm implements, and the countless other engines and vehicles he had collected over the years.

Mr. Spiroff was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Houghton, and also attended Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chassell. He was a life member of VFW Post #6507 of Chassell.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and his sister Jean Spiroff.
