Heikinpäivä 2021 Canceled

The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed another Copper Country community event. Heikinpäivä will not be held next month.

Members of the City of Hancock’s Finnish Theme Committee said they couldn’t come up with a way to do justice to the tradition and spirit of the event, and still conduct it in a safe manner.

Some Finnish American Folk School classes that are typically associated with the event may still be held in January, but the major events, including the parade, the toris, the outdoor games and the polar bear dive, will not take place.

The Committee hopes to return with a full Heikinpäivä celebration in January, 2022.
