MTU

Michigan Tech’s Blake Pietila has been named Goaltender of the Week by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Pietila made 78 saves and earned his first college win as the Huskies split their series against Minnesota State Sunday and Monday.

The Huskies are scheduled to play at Bemidji State this weekend.

The Tech men’s basketball team has introduced a new recruit. Nate Abel is a point guard from Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, who led the Badger North Conference with 21 points and five rebounds per game last season.

NHL

The National Hockey League is aiming to begin its season January 13th. Negotiations to change the labor agreement between the league and the players were not successful, so the campaign will proceed with the deal that was reached over the summer. Training camps are anticipated to open New Year’s Day. The season is expected to include between 50 and 60 games. Scheduling and COVID-19 safety protocols remain to be worked out.

MLB

New Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch added another staff member for the upcoming season. José Cruz Jr. will serve as assistant hitting coach. Cruz played 12 seasons in the majors. This will be his first major league coaching job. His son, Trei, was selected by Detroit in the third round of this year’s draft.

The Tigers have been awarded another selection in the 2021 draft. Their competitive balance pick will come between rounds one and two.

NFL

In last night’s NFL game, the Ravens rushed for 294 yards, and ran past the Cowboys 34-17.

If you played The Wolf Pro Football Challenge, you must have selected at least 11 games correctly to be eligible to become this week’s winner.
