Abuse Case Against U.P. Priest Advances

Court proceedings are advancing in cases involving alleged sexual abuse by a former Upper Peninsula priest.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office reports that Gary Jacobs will face a pretrial hearing December 18th before Judge Michael Pope in Ontonagon County Circuit Court.

Last week, a motion to suppress a confession Jacobs made was denied. A motion to split the four counts against him into two separate trials was granted. Witnesses in all of the cases will be allowed to testify in both of the trials.

Jacobs is now 74 years old. The charges date back to the early 1980s, when he served as a priest in Ontonagon County.

Jacobs also faces charges in Dickinson County.
