The Michigan House of Representatives will not meet formally today.
Members are scrambling to react to the potential exposure to COVID-19 during Rudolph Giuliani’s appearance before a House committee last Wednesday.
President Trump’s lead attorney has since been diagnosed with the virus. He spoke for more than four hours, and refused to wear a mask.
Ingham County Health Officer Linda Vail released a statement yesterday, saying officials believe it was “extremely likely” that Giuliani was contagious at the time. Vail said anyone who was at the hearing, or spent more than 15 minutes close to Giuliani, should quarantine and be tested.
Michigan Republican Party officials who met with Giuliani have said they will be tested, and party chair Laura Cox has said she will quarantine.
Although there will be no official session today, House committee meetings are still scheduled, and business could resume as usual tomorrow, whether or not test results are received.
Democratic Party leaders called for more time to process tests, and for a mask mandate to be enforced at the capitol.
There is no requirement for legislators to notify leadership, staff or the public if they test positive for COVID-19.
