NMU Honors 1,600+ Graduates Online

Northern Michigan University saluted more than 1,600 recent graduates at a virtual ceremony yesterday.

NMU Board of Trustees Chair Steve Mitchell acknowledged that students’ final months may not have been what they had hoped for…

“You were cheated out of parties in the spring, going to the bars with your friends, enjoying Marquette with everybody on campus, and doing the things that you want. You were cheated this fall. There’s no football season, there’s no homecoming.”

He said that the emphasis needs to be placed on the future…

“You don’t want to be defined by this. You want to be defined by how you’ve responded to what’s happened to our world, and to our university, and more particularly to your life.”

The online graduation included those who completed their degrees last spring and summer, and those who concluded study after the fall semester. You can see the entire ceremony here.

Michigan Tech will hold its winter commencement December 19th.
