Michigan Sets Another Grim COVID Record, As Local Diagnoses Ease

Michigan set another new daily record for COVID-19 diagnoses Friday, as 8,689 confirmed cases were reported across the state.

81 deaths were reported Friday, following the 175 that were logged on Thursday.

As of Friday afternoon, 389,032 Michiganders have contracted the virus, and 9,661 have died since the pandemic began.

There has been some relief in the diagnosis rates in the western Upper Peninsula, although levels remain very high.

Houghton County’s average number of new cases per day fell 14 percent in the past week. Baraga County is down 46 percent, and Ontonagon County fell 27 percent. Iron County dropped 33 percent, but Gogebic County saw a 33 percent increase.
