Copper Country Restaurant Fined for Pandemic Order Violation

A Copper Country restaurant is among the first in the state to be cited for not following the latest pandemic order from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

Café Rosetta in Calumet was assessed a $1,000 fine for violating the safety guidelines.

The standard fine is $1,000 per day of illegal operation.

Restaurants in Fenton and Lapeer were also fined $1,000. The Big Boy Restaurant in Sandusky was fined $5,000, and the Big Boy organization has terminated the restaurant’s franchise.

MDHHS officials say additional fines are coming, based on tips they have received from concerned citizens and local law enforcement.

The Michigan Liquor Control Commission has also begun suspending liquor licenses of violators. Establishments in Newaygo, Fremont and Fenton have had their licenses pulled.

The public can report any suspected non-compliance issue at an establishment with a  liquor license directly to the MLCC online or by calling the toll-free MLCC Enforcement Hotline at 866-893-2121.
