State Flags Lowered to Honor First Responder

Flags at state facilities in Michigan will fly at half-staff today to honor a first responder killed in the line of duty.

Captain Joe Gallo died last week when he lost control of his car on a gravel road while on his way to a barn fire.

He served with the Blissfield Township Fire Department as a firefighter and EMT, and also with the Madison Township Fire Department. Both are located just north of the Ohio border in Lenawee County.

Gallo’s funeral will be held today in Blissfield. He was 34 years old, and is survived by his parents and a brother.

Flags will be returned to full staff tomorrow.
