MTU To Cut Heat in COVID-Vacated Areas

Michigan Tech is using the COVID-19 classroom shutdown to save some money on the heating bill. 

Tech Today reports that, beginning tomorrow, the university’s heating plant will shift to weekend/holiday mode. Director of Energy Management Larry Hermanson says the cooldown will continue as long as the campus remains in Health and Safety Level Five. 

Most areas will be about five degrees cooler, but, with 150 different systems, there will be some variance.

Some spaces will not be affected, including research areas, where project results could be affected by temperature changes.

The library, residence halls, and other areas not typically included in the usual weekend/holiday reductions are also unaffected.
