Michigan Unemployment Rate Falls

Michigan’s employment picture continued to brighten in October.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate 5.5 percent was the lowest it’s been since the pandemic hit in March.

Figures released yesterday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget also placed the state 1.4 percent below the national average – something that has rarely happened in recent months.

The three-month average for August through October showed 189,000 more unemployed workers than the state had in February.

Those numbers do not take into account workers who may be affected by layoffs during the latest COVID-19 pause, which began yesterday, and is scheduled to last for three weeks.
