U.P. Republican Legislators Slam Whitmer Line 5 Decision

Three U.P. Republican state legislators have now responded to Governor Whitmer’s order to shut down the Enbridge Line 5 pipeline.

In a joint statement released yesterday afternoon, State Senator Ed McBroom, and Representatives Greg Markkanen and Beau LaFave accused the governor of playing political games by releasing her decision after the most recent election.

They criticized her insistence on shutting down the pipeline before a solution is in place.

Line 5 produces nearly two-thirds of the propane used in the Upper Peninsula.

Whitmer’s order would stop pipeline delivery by early May, based on what she says are violations of the easement the state granted Enbridge in the early 1950s to run the line across the floor of the Straits of Mackinac.
