Dee Public Skating on Hold; Winter Market to Debut

There will be no public skating at Dee Stadium for the foreseeable future.

At last night’s Houghton City Council meeting, City Manager Eric Waara explained that they just haven’t figured out a way for COVID-19 guidelines to be enforced in such an unstructured environment…

“Most hockey teams are sort of organized. Coaches and then the older players have a lot better control versus inviting the community en masse to come to public skating.”

Waara said they’ll continue to work on the situation, with hopes that public skating could be reintroduced early next year.

A modified, late-season semi-outdoor market will debut this weekend in Houghton…

“They’re calling it ‘Second Saturday.’ almost like a winter farmers market, but it’s not necessarily just farmers.”

It will also include artists, crafters and other vendors.

The Second Saturday Market will set up this Saturday and December 12th from 9:00 until noon on the lower level of the Subway parking deck.
