Shaft, Jr. Shaft Exhibitions Open

The COVID-19 pandemic has not stopped one of the Copper Country’s signature art events.

The Shaft and Junior Shaft community exhibition features works in all media inspired by the Keweenaw’s mining heritage.

This year’s show includes 31 pieces by 21 artists, including five art students from Calumet High School.

The display can be viewed in person at the Copper Country Community Arts Center in Hancock through November 25th. It can also be viewed on the Arts Center’s website.

You’re invited to vote for your favorite entries. Winners of the Community Choice Awards will be announced in December.

This year’s artists include Bob Dawson, Jeanne Houle Peters, Barbara Summersett, Madhura Mehendale, Cynthia Cote, Phyllis Fredendall, Clyde Mikkola, Charles Eshbach, Diana Lyon, Duane Lyon, Tony Hatala, Christa Walck, Tammy Toj Gajewski, Kristine Danielson, Fredi Taddeucci, and Pamela Hecht. Students of Susan Rosemurgy’s art class at Calumet High School include Alli Johnson, Alison Golden, Maryanne Helppi, Vanessa Mosher, and Makayla Coppo.
