Calumet Needs Help Tomorrow to Preserve Building

Help is needed tomorrow to try to shore up one of Calumet’s historic buildings.

425 Fifth Street

The Village of Calumet DDA, KEDA, Main Street Calumet, and the Houghton County Land Bank are working together to stabilize the sandstone structure at 425 5th Street.

Tomorrow, they hope to install support posts in the front portion of the building.

The long term goal is to make the building more attractive for redevelopment.

If you’d like to help, meet at the building tomorrow at 8:00. The work session is expected to last until 12:30. Dress appropriately for the weather, because the building is not heated. You’ll need work gloves, safety glasses, and a mask for COVID-19 and dust protection.

For planning purposes, organizers would like to know who’s coming in advance. Email leah@mainstreetcalumet.com or call 337-6246.
