Despite advice to the contrary from the Centers for Disease Control, trick-or-treating is expected to happen across the Copper Country tomorrow. While not endorsing the tradition this year, local governments have set their usual trick-or-treating hours for those who choose to participate. In alphabetical order…

• Calumet Township: 5:00 until 8:00
• Calumet Village: 5:00 until 8:00
• Hancock: 5:00 until 8:00
• Houghton: 5:00 until 8:00 – city firefighters will patrol neighborhoods to help ensure safety.
• Lake Linden: 5:00 until 8:00
• L’Anse: 5:00 until 7:30
• Larium: 5:00 until 8:00
• South Range: 4:00 until 7:00
If you’ll be handing out treats, the CDC recommends…
• Avoid direct contact with trick-or-treaters.
• Distribute treats outdoors, if possible.
• Set up a station with individually bagged treats for kids to take.
• Wash your hands before handling treats.
• Wear a mask.
If your kids will be trick-or-treating, the CDC recommends…
• Make your cloth mask part of your costume – a costume mask is not a substitute for a cloth mask.
• Stay at least 6 feet away from others who do not live with you.
• Bring hand sanitizer with you and use it after touching objects or other people.
• Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds when you get home and before you eat any treats.
General trick-or-treat safety guidelines for kids include…
• Wear bright, reflective costumes.
• Young children should be accompanied by responsible older children or adults.
• Carry a flashlight.
• Don’t open or eat treats until an adult can review them at home.
Drivers should also be extra alert for trick-or-treaters tomorrow.
